It looks set to be another busy few months of ins and outs for Arsenal this summer.
Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar have overseen a complete overhaul of the squad in the last few years, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Özil leaving and stars like Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, and Kai Havertz coming in.
The latest exciting star touted for a move to the Emirates is Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams.
While he'd likely be a success in North London, the Gunners already have an incredibly talented left-winger worth even more in the squad.
Gabriel Martinelli's valuation in 2024
The player in question is none other than Brazilian dynamo Gabriel Martinelli, who might just be one of the Gunners' best transfers in recent memory.
Edu masterminded his move from Brazilian fourth-tier outfit Ituano to Arsenal in the summer of 2019 for a meagre fee of £6m – talk about a bargain buy.
In his first campaign in N5, the "sensational" winger, as dubbed U23 scout Antonio Mango, racked up a genuinely impressive haul of ten goals and four assists in just 26 games, and if it wasn't for a really unfortunate knee injury, he might well have ended his debut campaign with 20 goal involvements.
His next significant contribution to the team came in the 2021/22 season when he scored six goals and provided seven assists in 36 matches, but his best campaign to date came just a year later.
During the Gunners' shock title charge in 2022/23, the Guarulhos-born dynamo found the back of the net on 15 occasions and provided six assists in just 46 games. While he couldn't get the team over the line, he had well and truly announced his arrival as one of the best wingers in the league.

Last season was less successful for the 22-year-old. He still managed a respectable eight goals and five assists in 44 games, but by his own high standards, he was slightly off the pace for much of the campaign, likely not helped by the departure of Granit Xhaka in the summer and the constant changes at left-back.
However, despite his slight downturn in form, the Brazilian's valuation is still higher than the latest winger touted for a move to the club.
Gabriel Martinelli's valuation
Williams is just one player who has caught the public's attention at the Euros this summer. The Spaniard might not have scored any goals or provided any assists in the competition just yet, but his overall performance has been excellent, as evidenced by his Player of the Match award for the game against Italy.
The 21-year-old has been linked to several clubs this summer, but according to recent reports, Arsenal are prepared to pay his hefty €58m release clause, which converts to around £49m. While that is a lot of money, it's less than Martinelli is currently valued at.
According to the CIES Football Observatory, the former Ituano gem is worth a whopping €100m, which is about £84m, or £35m more than the club are prepared to pay for the Bilbao ace.
The reasons for the Brazilian's massive price tag are fairly straightforward.
First, he's still relatively young at 22 years old, and while he's been in and around the first team for a while now, he should have at least a decade left at the top of the game should he remain fit.
Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli
The second reason is that even in a supposed 'off' campaign like last season, the 5 foot 10 "monster", as journalist Mark Mann-Bryans described him, still racked up 13 goal involvements, and given his age, there is no reason to think he won't keep on improving over the coming years.
The last reason is that his £180k-per-week contract runs until summer 2027, so there is no rush to either sell or agree a new deal with him at the moment.
Leading the pack: Arsenal favourites to land "insane" £41m Saka rival
The brilliant “entertainer” could help the Englishman reach another level.
ByJack Salveson Holmes Jun 26, 2024
Ultimately, Williams looks like he'd be a great addition to Arsenal, but the club shouldn't forget that they already have an incredibly talented left-winger in Martinelli, just ready to show the league what he can do when he's at his best.
Glasgow Rangers may have begun their summer rebuilding job at Ibrox, but it is far from finished. With just three weeks to go until the season opener, Philippe Clement will be keen on signing at least another three or four players to speed this process up.
The oldest player that has signed is Liam Kelly, who is 28, as it appears the Belgian is building for the future. While this policy may pay dividends in the next few years, the Ibrox faithful are a hard bunch to satiate at the best of times, which means some experience is needed.
One of the newest links is to a midfielder who is currently playing in the Swiss top flight, but he could perhaps turn into Steven Davis 2.0 for Rangers.
Rangers showing interest in Senegalese midfielder
According to reports, Rangers have reportedly made contact with BSC Young Boys midfielder Cheikh Niasse to try and lure the player to Scotland this summer.
Nothing has been said about the potential transfer fee that the 24-year-old could cost the Glasgow side, and it remains to be seen whether Young Boys will want to cash in on one of their prized assets ahead of the new season.
Rangers target Cheikh Niasse in action in the Champions League.
If Clement is successful, he could be signing a player similar in style to Davis, whose presence has been missed in the heart of the Gers midfield recently.
How Cheikh Niasse compares to Davis
Davis, particularly during his second spell at the Light Blues, dictated games on a regular basis for the club, and he was incredible during the title-winning 2020/21 campaign.
Glasgow Rangers midfielder Steven Davis.
Indeed, across 35 games that season, the midfielder finished with an 89% pass success rate, along with averaging 81.7 touches and being dribbled past on just 0.7 occasions per game, showing how imperative he was to their success.
For Young Boys, Niasse finished the season with an 83% pass success rate while averaging 48.7 touches in just 22 starts, showing his talents in the heart of the midfield.

Defensively, he is also excellent, as evidenced by the fact he ranks in the top 4% for blocks per 90 (2.02) and in the top 1% for interceptions per 90 (2.69) when compared to his positional peers in leagues similar to the Swiss top-flight, proving that he isn’t just impressing among his own teammates, but also when likened to other players from different leagues.
Rangers Journal founder Kai Watson lavished praise on the African talent amid the recent links, taking to X to say: “A strong, ball winning midfielder who’s capable going forward. A good ball carrier and passer of the ball, Cheikh Niasse is the perfect profile for what we’re needing in the middle of the pitch.”
Rangers midfielder Steven Davis.
That ability to pass and progress the play certainly sounds like Davis and thus, he could be exactly what Clement needs in order to establish some control during matches next season, something that let the club down towards the end of the 2023/24 campaign. Just imagine that partnership alongside fellow summer arrival, Mohamed Diomande.
The Ivorian boasts similar qualities, surging forward to provide 1.5 key passes per match in Rangers colours last term but also making 1.5 tackles a game.
If Rangers sign Niasse and partner him with Diomande, it could turn into a wonderful piece of transfer business.

The Light Blues are reportedly interested in a potential deal to sign the midfielder.
Chandler’s 5 for 41 helped Wellington beat Canterbury in NZC women’s domestic one-dayer

Just a month and 17 days past her 14th birthday, Wellington women’s Kate Chandler entered the record books by picking up a List A five-for in just her third match at this level in the New Zealand Cricket Women’s One Day Competition against Canterbury women at Christchurch’s Hagley Oval on Saturday.Legspinner Chandler, still a schoolgoer, had three wickets in her first two games – all of them in a ten-over spell of 3 for 39 against Central Districts women earlier this month – but returned 5 for 41 against Canterbury, helping Wellington bowl the opponents out for 155 in 46.1 overs. Wellington then ticked off the runs in in 32.1 overs for the loss of two wickets.Chandler started the show when Canterbury were 117 for 4, first sending back Lea Tahuhu, a national team regular and then, in the same over – the 35th of the innings – the veteran Kate Ebrahim. Her other victims were Laura Hughes, KM Sims and Gabby Sullivan. Chandler even returned a wicket-maiden and a double-wicket-maiden along the way.Whether Chandler has become the youngest in List A history to bag a five-for couldn’t be ascertained, but an NZC statement said that her haul was the 14th best in Wellington women’s List A history.
O time fica na frente apenas de Fluminense e Atlético-GO.
Atualmente, a equipe ocupa a sexta posição no Brasileirão.

When the seamers were out of ideas, he stepped up to apply the finishing touches with his subtle variations

The New Zealand players all wanted a piece of Mitchell Santner after he took the match-winning catch•Getty Images
Mitchell Santner’s Test future seemed uncertain at the start of 2020 when he was dropped following the Australia tour as part of a spin overhaul. However, he returned and ended the year with a crucial double-strike against Pakistan that capped a last-gasp win for New Zealand at Bay Oval. Santner’s red-ball future as a wicket-taking option isn’t certain yet, but he has done his bit to help push New Zealand towards the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s in 2021.For the most part of his second-innings spell in the first Test against Pakistan, Santner lacked control, straying with his lines and lengths. The left-handed Fawad Alam pulled and cut his way to 32 off 34 balls against Santner. The left-arm fingerspinner also sent down a dirty log-hop to Mohammad Rizwan, which was duly swatted to the midwicket boundary.Related

However, when the pace quartet couldn’t quite find a way past a stubborn lower order, it was Santner who stepped up to apply the finishing touches with his subtle variations. After beating Mohammad Abbas with a delivery that gripped and turned past the outside edge, Santner pinned him lbw with a quicker arm ball.New Zealand’s premier seamers Trent Boult and Tim Southee then had a crack at Pakistan’s last pair in tandem for five overs, but Naeem Shah and Shaheen Afridi somehow held them off. Kane Williamson turned to Santner again, and on cue he had Shah scooping a return catch off a loopy delivery that stuck in the pitch.Watch cricket on ESPN+

“We remained patient throughout – even in the first innings,” Santner said at the post-match media conference. “So, you know, like Kane said, we believed if we get one, we could get a few. It was nice to see a couple turn at the end, and to just contribute to the effort was good as well. It obviously got a little bit closer. Kane said that the way two seamers got the breakthroughs got us back into the game, so it was nice to help out as well in the last couple of overs. I guess my role there was fire it into the wicket and hopefully one skid or one spin.”Santner also made an impact in the field when he nailed a direct hit from the deep to cut short Rizwan’s first innings at 71. A day after that dramatic finish, head coach Gary Stead was asked if Santner makes things happen for New Zealand.”Yeah, I think, if you look at defining moments in the match, the Mitchell Santner run-out in the first innings actually swung things back and gave us a chance to have a decent lead and then be able to leave something that we wanted to,” Stead said. “Mitch is a great fellow and he’s got a lot of skills and I guess he’s often someone people point to that he doesn’t necessarily get results in New Zealand, but New Zealand for spin bowlers is a tough, tough place to play in and he offers a lot to our team.”Sure, Santner has had poor outings across the Tasman Sea, but has been an unsung contributor to New Zealand’s dominance at home. New Zealand have been unbeaten in their last 16 Tests at home, and Santner has featured in six of those matches, scoring 282 runs at an average of 40.28 and picking up 10 wickets at an average of 29.30. The major highlight was his career-best 126 from No.7 and 3 for 53 against England, also at the Bay Oval in 2019.Ajaz Patel had previously been identified as a more attacking spin option after his success in the UAE and Sri Lanka, but the rapid rise of Kyle Jamieson has now shaken up the combination, with New Zealand leaning towards four frontline seamers and an allrounder. As for Patel, having suffered a calf injury, he has now been asked to prove his form and fitness in domestic cricket in order to work his way back into the national side.In the injury-enforced absence of Colin de Grandhomme, Daryl Mitchell got the nod against West Indies before Santner made his comeback against Pakistan on a Mount Maunganui pitch that wasn’t dissimilar from an Asian pitch, according to Azhar Ali.Santner sees himself fulfilling the allrounder’s role on such tracks, but also accepts that there may not be a place for him in the XI on greener pitches.”We’ve seen on surfaces that we’ve come across before [where] the four seamers have done a great job,” Santner said. “On slightly slower wickets like this [Mount Maunganui], there’s probably a place. But then, obviously the batting is important as well. We’re not sure what we’re going to get at Christchurch – probably not similar to the one out there. Probably a bit more green.”

Leicester City fans will hope that the subdued mood that initially surrounded Steve Cooper's appointment to the Foxes dug-out is replaced with a different emotion of jubilation when the Premier League finally gets underway, as the new Welsh manager aims to steer the East Midlands side successfully back up into the top division and help them thrive.
Cooper will have his work cut out to win over some of his harshest critics, however, when you consider he has only amassed a poor 12 wins from 55 games as a manager in the elite league to date, but the King Power Stadium masses will have to get behind the ex-Nottingham Forest boss no matter what and hope he can succeed as Enzo Maresca's replacement.
Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper.
There have been some positives in the transfer window so far, as Leicester aim to add in talents that won't wilt under the intense spotlight of the Premier League in the form of Caleb Okoli and Michael Golding.
Still, when it comes to major incomings entering through the door, the books will have to be appropriately balanced in due course, which could see this forgotten Foxes midfielder be offloaded for good, ahead of the challenging season to come.
Boubakary Soumare's transfer to Leicester
There would have been a lot of hype in the air during the summer window before the 2021/22 season got underway that Leicester were going to strike gold with the purchase of Boubakary Soumare from French side Lille, signing on the dotted line for the Foxes for a reported £17m, after just being fresh off a Ligue 1 title success in France.
The then 22-year-old midfielder would also put pen to paper on a bumper five-year contract to sign for Brendan Rodgers' men, with the world then expected of Soumare to shine in this new English location, to justify the long deal and his excessive price tag.
Unfortunately, it hasn't been all smooth sailing for the towering 6 foot 2 holding midfielder playing at the King Power to date, with the Frenchman nowhere to be found during Leicester's title-winning campaign last time out, as Soumare was allowed to join Sevilla on loan instead.
This could mean his future is on shaky ground ahead of the new Premier League season under Cooper, especially when you cast an eye over his underwhelming displays in the top division for the Foxes before he was shipped out to Spain, with reports now circulating that the newly promoted outfit will try to offload Soumare this summer, even if it is for a cut-price.
Soumare's time at Leicester so far
The former Paris. St Germain youth player has never quite been able to hold down a consistent starting spot for Leicester, way before his loan adventure out to La Liga had even come to fruition.
During his first full campaign in the Premier League, the forgotten Foxes figure would have to wait patiently until the middle of September for his first-ever start in the division, with just 12 starts handed his way across his limited first-team action – coming in at 19 league appearances during the 2021/22 season in total.

Whilst his midfield teammates on the day such as Youri Tielemans and James Maddison have now gone onto far luxurious pastures since lining up alongside Soumare versus the Seagulls, the ex-Lille man could now be staring his exit from the King Power on a permanent basis in the face, especially when you take a glance at his continued woes during his second full campaign in the East Midlands.
Soumare's game time would increase, but he would end up having the stain of relegation on his CV at the conclusion of the 2022/23 season, with an unmemorable 26 games notched up along the way to the Foxes crashing down to the Championship.
There would be widespread joy on social media, therefore, when Soumare was offloaded right at the death of last summer's window to Sevilla, with Leicester fans severely let down by how underwhelming their £17m man was to watch in the flesh.
It's not as if the 25-year-old went away to La Liga and managed to shine brightly either, with 28 top-flight games under his belt in his new location passing him by before returning back to England – with only one goal contribution mustered up at his short-term employers – and so Cooper and Co will now be tasked in trying to get rid of the Foxes dud once and for all.
Away from being largely unimpressive for Leicester, Soumare's extortionate pay packet will also be a concern and a major factor as to why they'll want to accelerate a move away for the former Lille midfielder very soon, with his current wage making him a higher earner than dependable first-teamer Wilfred Ndidi and trending target, Matias Soule.
Soumare's wage at Leicester
According to Capology, Soumare will be earning a ludicrous salary of £80k-per-week next season back at the King Power if he is not offloaded, making him the third highest earner in Cooper's camp consequently.
Only Jamie Vardy and Harry Winks earn more than the on-the-fringes midfielder currently, who earn an eye-watering £100k-per-week and £90k-per-week respectively, but they are likely to remain in and around the first-team under the new Welsh boss to justify their bumper salaries.

Ndidi earns £5k-per-week less than Soumare at £75k-per-week, despite the Nigerian midfielder being a consistent performer for Leicester for many seasons now, with the long-standing servant helping himself to seven goals and nine assists from 192 games in the Premier League for the Foxes.
Moreover, removing Soumare from the wage bill could be a wise call to make in order to allow for new signings to enter the building and not stretch the club's finances too much, with talk have been rife over a move for the aforementioned Soule in recent times.
Soule would score 11 goals in Serie A last season for loan employers Frosinone, with the up-and-coming star only on a meagre wage of £9k-per-week back at parent club Juventus.
Yet, the suggestion now is that the Argentine is instead set to be on his way to Roma, with Cooper and Co now having to make do with tricky attackers such as Stephy Mavididi already at their disposal away from the South American.
As for Soumare, there might well not be any room for the forgotten midfielder in the newly promoted squad next season, as Leicester aim to sell on their high earner this summer and forget about an expensive flop costing them dear.
Leicester could hit gold by selling a star who's worth more than Soule
Leicester City can still win when it comes to selling on this forgotten man.
