Romano reveals Man Utd Eriksen talks

Manchester United chiefs met with the agent of Christian Eriksen in recent days, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Eriksen a free agent

Eriksen is set to become a free agent at the end of the month when his Brentford contract expires. He has impressed back in England with the Bees, contributing to five goals in 11 games as a central midfielder.

The 30-year-old normally plays in an attacking role, though, and was hailed as ‘out of this world’ by Gary Neville for his passing.

David Ornstein stated recently that United have made Eriksen an offer, and Romano has shared what he knows in regards to a possible Old Trafford move.

The Latest: Romano’s comments

Talking to GiveMeSport, Romano shared details of ‘a direct discussion’ with Eriksen’s agent, believing that a move is a ‘possibility’.

However, the transfer expert then name-checked both Brentford and Tottenham as competitors when it comes to Eriksen’s services.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-man-utd-updates-3/” title=”Latest Man Utd updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

“With Christian Eriksen, they had a conversation, a direct discussion with his agent Martin Schoots a few days ago, they discussed about a potential contract, so it’s a possibility, but Tottenham and Brentford are also pushing for him to go next season.”

The Verdict: Fingers crossed

United will have just one senior attacking midfielder on the books in Bruno Fernandes from July, with Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata set to leave.

Therefore, bringing in Eriksen on a free transfer appears to be a no brainer. The Denmark international could even play anywhere in attack for Erik ten Hag if required and would bring bundles of Premier League experience.

A cut-price move for Eriksen may also mean that United can put more money into a deal for primary target Frenkie de Jong, so hopefully, the club can get this one over the line.

Rangers: Report makes McPake claim

Glasgow Rangers youngster Josh McPake is being targeted by AFC Wimbledon, according to a report from Football Insider.

The lowdown: Eternal loanee

A graduate of the academy in Glasgow, McPake made a senior bow for the Gers under Steven Gerrard against St Joseph’s FC in the Europa League qualifying phase in 2019.

Since then the right-winger has spent time on loan at Dundee FC, Morton, Harrogate Town, Morecambe and most recently with Tranmere Rovers.

Set to return to Ibrox in the coming weeks, the Scottish youth international is now believed to be considering where his future may lie…

The latest: ‘Joined the race’

As per Football Insider, recently relegated AFC Wimbledon are keen on signing the ‘surplus to requirements’ 20-year-old attacker.

It’s claimed that the League Two outfit have ‘joined the race’ alongside Raith Rovers and Carlisle United to sign McPake this summer whose ‘future is up in the air’ at Rangers.

The report also states that ‘sources’ at Ibrox have suggested that the Teddy Bears are ‘willing’ to part with the youngster who was dubbed ‘too hot to handle’ by former Harrogate manager Simon Weaver.

The verdict: Time’s up

Despite a promising youth career, recent spells away from the club have flattered to deceive and Giovani van Bronckhorst is unlikely to hand McPake another shot at first-team football in the near future.

The supremely versatile forward has scored seven times and provided three assists in 66 games across the various levels of his career, but he struggled to make an impact in five outings whilst on loan at League One Morecambe before an ankle issue cut that short.

Valued at just £68,000 and under contract until 2024 (Transfermarkt), the Gers should at least be confident of boosting their own budget slightly with the sale of McPake, particularly having only agreed on a new deal last summer.

Ajax eye move for Spurs’ Steven Bergwijn

As per reports in the last 48 hours, a major Tottenham Hotspur exit update has now come to light involving wantaway winger Steven Bergwijn.

The Lowdown: Summer of change at Tottenham…

The Lilywhites could be set for a very interesting 2022/23 Premier League campaign after Antonio Conte guided them to a place in the Champions League for next season.

Finishing in the top four on the final day of the last campaign has granted Spurs some real privileges, including a £150m equity increase courtesy of ENIC and three confirmed signings already.

However, in order to balance the books, Spurs transfer chief Fabio Paratici needs to offload a few players, and one man who is expected to leave north London is Bergwijn.

The Latest: Bergwijn transfer update…

The Netherlands international has openly admitted that he’s open to leaving Tottenham, with Football Insider sharing a big development on Tuesday afternoon.

According to their information, Ajax are eyeing a big-money move for Bergwijn, who they are keen to make their ‘marquee signing’ of the summer.

Negotiations are apparently ‘advancing’ and both clubs believe that an agreement could be imminent – so much so that all parties are confident that a deal could be in place by ‘the end of this week’.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Sad end for Bergwijn…

Often a big-game player, Bergwijn’s stoppage-time heroics at Leicester City in January enhance the belief that he can really be of use to Conte on his day, despite drawing criticism from the likes of Graeme Souness in the past.

However, the Dutchman – who started just four league games last season – could struggle for game-time ahead of the in-form Dejan Kulusevski, or further potential summer additions, and we believe that an exit from Tottenham may suit all parties.

Paratici will need to agree outgoings sooner rather than later, with Bergwijn coming as a likely departure from N17.

Tottenham: Sky reporter makes claim involving Fabio Paratici

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has now made a Tottenham Hotspur transfer claim involving sporting director Fabio Paratici amid the club’s hunt for new additions.

The Lowdown: Paratici busy…

Having already completed three major signings in Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma on permanent deals, the Lilywhites transfer chief hasn’t exactly stopped there.

Paratici also visited his native Italy last week and is believed to have conducted a meeting with Roma over potential player sales and getting information on their star playmaker Nicolo Zaniolo (Sky Sports).

Closer to home, Spurs remain heavily linked with the likes of Leeds United star Raphinha, among others.

The Latest: Michael Bridge makes Spurs claim…

Sharing an update on Paratici’s plans for the north Londoners, Sky journalist Bridge has some news for supporters.

Indeed, he claims that the sporting director personally has his eyes on Everton star Richarlison, although no bid has been made yet for the 25-year-old.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest updates” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Also sharing news on a possible exit agreement for midfielder Harry Winks, Bridge explained (via Twitter): “Tottenham & Everton still in talks over Harry Winks transfer. Tottenham want a permanent deal. Everton want loan deal with permanent obligation. Winks aware he’s not in Conte’s plans. #THFC keen to do deal with Everton. Richarlison is admired by Fabio Paratici but no bids so far.”

The Verdict: Advance…

Richarlison, who once boasted an asking price of £100m, could move on for much less than that this summer, as some reports suggest that he is now valued at £50m.

After this seismic drop in value, Spurs would be foolish not to take full advantage given that the Brazil international was statistically Everton’s best-performing player last season (WhoScored).

Having averaged the Toffees’ most attempts at goal per 90 in the Premier League whilst also finishing the 2021/22 campaign as their top scorer (10), Richarlison would undoubtedly strengthen Tottenham’s attacking options.

He is also apparently ‘open’ to joining manager Antonio Conte in N17, as reported by reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Lenglet to Spurs now a ‘matter of time’

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Clement Lenglet’s proposed move to Tottenham is now just a ‘matter of time’ from being completed.

The Lowdown: Lenglet agrees terms with Spurs

The 27-year-old, who currently plays his football for Barcelona, has been heavily linked with a move away from Camp Nou in recent weeks after it was claimed that Xavi had told the defender that he wasn’t part of his plans moving forward.

Sky Sports reported last week that the Lilywhites had opened talks with the Frenchman over a potential loan switch to the Premier League, and after just days of negotiations, it was later announced that the player had agreed personal terms to join Conte in the capital.

The Latest: Romano’s Lenglet update

Taking to Twitter, Romano insisted that Lenglet’s move to Tottenham is now imminent, with both parties in the process of ironing out the last few details. He wrote:

“Clement Lenglet to Tottenham, just matter of time and then… here we go soon. Agreement’s being finalised between Barcelona and Tottenham on loan deal, working on details.

“Lenglet agreed personal terms with Spurs last week, matter of final steps between clubs.”

The Verdict: Experience at the back

Despite only making seven starts in La Liga last season, Lenglet showed just how comfortable he is playing out from the back, averaging an outstanding 91% pass success rate, via WhoScored, an attribute that Conte likes to have in his starting XI.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The 15-cap international will also already be very familiar with Champions League football, having made 44 appearances in the competition for both Barcelona and Sevilla, so could bring some much-needed European experience to that defensive backline.

Lenglet will soon follow in the footsteps of Perisic, Forster, Bissouma and Richarlison to become Paratici’s fifth signing of the summer as Conte continues to build his new-look squad ahead of the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

Leeds: Paul Robinson reacts to pending Raphinha move

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has been reacting to Raphinha’s proposed move to Barcelona.

The Lowdown: Fee agreed

Raphinha remained in Yorkshire over the weekend looking to resolve his future as Leeds jetted to Australia for their pre-season tour, and it now looks as if he will get his wish with a move to Barcelona well and truly in the pipeline.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Tuesday that an agreement was in place for Leeds to receive a guaranteed €58m (£48.9m) plus bonuses.

Phil Hay stated on Wednesday morning that the winger is heading to Barcelona to undergo a medical ahead of an Elland Road exit, with the club eventually confirming a deal is in place worth a total £55m with add-ons.

The Latest: Robinson reacts

Robinson, who contributes for Sky Sports, was talking to MOT Leeds News following the updates on Raphinha.

He was stunned that Barca have managed to agree a fee, labelling their financial situation as ‘incredible’ – the La Liga giants are in a scarcely believable boardroom meltdown for a club of their stature, currently owing millions to their players in outstanding wages.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-updates-6/” title=”Latest Leeds United updates!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

“Barcelona’s financial situation is incredible.

“They’re always going to be Barcelona and always have the pull, they’re one of the biggest clubs in the world and it’s a huge thing.

“But financially, they haven’t got the muscle they had of old.”

The Verdict: Big loss

Raphinha has clearly had his heart set on a move to Barcelona, and it’s fair to say he’ll leave with best wishes from the Elland Road faithful regardless of the bizarre circumstances surrounding the Catalan club’s finances.

If it wasn’t for his 11 goals and three assists last season, Leeds may have been preparing for life back in the Championship and Raphinha would have left for much less.

The Brazilian will be a big loss in Yorkshire, though, with Victor Orta labelling him as a player who is ‘physically very good’. Indeed, he didn’t just contribute with goals and assists but was also top of the charts when it came to sprints per game, fouls won, and key passes completed per 90 minutes. [WhoScored]

Hopefully, new signing Luis Sinisterra will be able to fill the void left by Raphinha, but it’ll be a big ask in his first season in the Premier League.

Transfer insider drops Aston Villa claim

Aston Villa could sign two more players before the transfer deadline on September 1st…

What’s the word?

That’s according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who delivered an exciting update to GIVEMESPORT this week, where he said:

“The priority is to get a midfielder to go alongside [Boubacar] Kamara. So that is the big fix, and then the luxury fix is a forward; they want an upgrade on [Danny] Ings and [Ollie] Watkins.

“Who can they get? Who could that person be? What could they do? How exciting can that name be? All these different profiles of player are being explored,” the journalist added.

“I presumed that Watkins or more likely Ings would leave, but it’s not sounding so much like that anymore. And it might be that just somebody else comes in as well, which is really interesting that that’s the approach that they’re going to take here.”

Villa not done yet

This latest claim will surely raise excitement amongst the Villa Park faithful as it’s clear that sporting director Johan Lange remains active in the transfer market, despite already making five signings.

Philippe Coutinho and Robin Olsen have joined permanently following their respective loan spells, whilst Boubacar Kamara has been snagged on a free transfer from Marseille, with Diego Carlos and Lugwig Augustinsson arriving from Sevilla.

Elsewhere, the Midlands outfit have been linked with an array of names, ranging from the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jesse Lingard to further afield targets such as Ibrahim Sangare and Jonathan David.

These potential signings match up with Jones’ claim that Villa will target a new midfielder and a new striker.

Gerrard managed to steer the Villans away from a relegation dogfight, having taken over from Dean Smith in mid-November, but ultimately, the side still only finished in a mediocre 14th place in the Premier League – some ten points clear of the drop zone.

It’s evident that the board back the former Rangers man to improve on that this campaign and the additions of two further players would certainly bolster their ambitions, which should make fans rather excited about the coming season.

With over a month and a half to go in the window, only time will tell on whether Villa can bring in a new midfielder and striker or not.

Spurs in no hurry to offer Kane a new deal

According to a report in the last 48 hours, Tottenham aren’t in a hurry to offer Harry Kane a new deal despite interest from Bayern Munich.

The Lowdown: Contrasting claims

The Spurs captain has been the subject of plenty of interest from the German giants in recent weeks, with the Bundesliga champions reportedly confident that they will be able to prise him away from the Premier League as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, even though the England captain still has two years remaining on his existing contract in N17.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano claimed on Sunday that Spurs are keen to open talks with the striker over a new deal soon amid attention from Bayern, but after a fresh update, that doesn’t necessarily appear to be the case.

The Latest: Spurs and Kane in no rush

In an article published by 90min on Wednesday which provides an apparent twist in the tale, it’s claimed that Tottenham ‘are not rushing’ to tie down Kane to fresh terms despite hearing of interest from Bayern.

The source stated that, whilst both parties do have a ‘mutual interest’ in opening talks in future, the player and club are ‘happy’ with the current situation and aren’t forcing ‘discussions’.

It’s reported that the England attacker is content at Spurs under Antonio Conte, with the general mood around the building ‘better’ than it was under the leadership of Nuno Espirito Santo.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: He’s going nowhere

Given the fact that Kane has just under 24 months left on his contract and is evidently happy with his position at the club, it’s difficult to imagine that any team would now be able to turn his head to the point where he leaves in the foreseeable future.

The 73-cap England international netted 27 times across all competitions for Spurs last season, and he will know just how much of an impact he has under Conte, with 20 of those coming after the Italian replaced Nuno at the helm last November.

Kane has contributed to so much of Tottenham’s success over the years, becoming the second-highest league goalscorer in the club’s history; and given his strong childhood ties with Spurs, he will no doubt want to continue inspiring them out onto the pitch for another while yet.

Expert drops key Leeds transfer claim

Leeds United target Arnaud Kalimuendo has not convinced everyone within the Elland Road hierarchy, according to transfer guru Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Leeds keen on Kalimuendo

There have been numerous Whites transfer rumours doing the rounds this summer but few players have been linked with a move more regularly than Kalimuendo.

The Paris Saint-Germain youngster is seemingly one of Leeds’ top targets for the striker position, with Jesse Marsch seeing him as someone who can add firepower after the departure of Raphinha to Barcelona.

Kalimuendo scored 21 goals in 65 appearances across two seasons on loan at Lens, not to mention nine in ten games for PSG’s Under-19s in Europe.

The Latest: Not everyone convinced

Speaking to Give Me Sport, however, ‘transfer insider’ Jones claimed that not everyone at Leeds is sure that the 20-year-old is the right signing currently:

“Just from speaking to three people, there are already mixed views among such a small survey group on whether this guy fits the bill.

“They say that definitely not everybody at the club thinks that somebody of his profile is the way to be going right now.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-47/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Move still feels likely

This is certainly an intriguing update – perhaps those against the signing desire a more senior and experienced figure – but it still feels as though Kalimuendo is someone Leeds will end up bringing in, with moves for other striker targets falling like flies.

At 20, he would be a long-term signing under Marsch, as he looks to plan well into the future, but his record for Lens is proof that he is also ready to make an immediate impact, which is perhaps the main fear from the doubters at Elland Road.

Victor Orta and Marsch need to be trusted in the transfer market to build a squad the manager wants, so if the youngster hailed as ‘disgustingly good’ by journalist Jacque Talbot is the man they want, the hierarchy should have no qualms about making it happen.

Liverpool can land Firmino 2.0 with Terrier

Liverpool have been having a clear out this summer with nine players leaving the Merseyside giants over the last few weeks, with only three new faces joining the ranks there is definitely an argument to be made that the club have weakened the squad.

In terms of the forward line, despite securing a fantastic contract extension for Mohamed Salah the loss of Sadio Mane and Taki Minamino will surely be felt with Mane a consistent performer scoring 120 goals over his six-year tenure and Minamino was the top goal scorer in both domestic trophy victories last season.

In addition to the confirmed departures of three goal-scorers this summer, there is now speculation that Juventus are in advanced talks to snatch the services of Liverpool’s Brazilian number nine Roberto Firmino, a decision that would prove unpopular with the Anfield faithful as the player has become a fan favourite.

There is no doubt that Firmino’s game time has been dwindling over the past few seasons following the arrival of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, but the attributes the 30-year-old star brings to the team are unmatched with Klopp labelling the player “the best offensive defender I ever saw in my life”.

With that being said, if FSG do decide to give Bobby the boot this summer there is one player who could be the perfect replacement for Liverpool to continue to take advantage of having an attacking player with solid defensive attributes in the advanced role in the team.

Martin Terrier has been linked with a move to the Red side of Merseyside on numerous occasions this summer, and has proven over the last season that he has what it takes to offer the full package Liverpool could be looking for.

The Stade Rennais star who has a reported price tag of £34m, scored 21 goals, delivered three assists and created five big chances, making 1.1 key passes, 1.5 tackles and taking 2.4 shots per game, as well as winning the majority of his duels (53%) over 37 league appearances.

Terrier was the third top goal scorer, ranked second for the most shots on target and ranked sixth for chance creation in the entirety of Ligue One last season and when it comes to positioning can play effectively in the attacking midfield, striker and left winger role.

The Frenchman has been lavished with praise by his manager Bruno Génésio who hailed the rising star “high-level” in a quote from the Ligue One website:

“Martin Terrier has all the qualities of a high-level player, tactically and in his movements. He’s attacking more aggressively too.”

It will be interesting to see how Liverpool react to the interest in Firmino, especially with the player in the last 12 months of his contract currently and whether they will have a replacement lined up ready to step into his role should the Brazilian leave this summer.
