Leeds fans unhappy after Stuart Dallas injury update

Leeds United fans on Twitter aren’t best pleased after Graham Smyth and Adam Pope confirmed that Stuart Dallas pulled out of Northern Ireland’s game against Germany due to a hamstring problem.

The 28-year-old has been integral for Leeds United so far this season, starting every single league game for the Whites this term while playing in no less than eight different positions according to WhoScored.

Understandably, Leeds supporters weren’t too happy when being faced with the prospect of being without Dallas for this weekend’s game against Luton Town, and they took to social media to share their feelings on the update.

It remains to be seen how long the utility man will be out for, but the prospect of being without him in the near future has seemingly disheartened a few members of the fanbase.

Here’s what the Elland Road faithful have been saying about Dallas’ injury on social media…

Barcelona fans react to the club being linked with Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino is officially out of Tottenham Hotspur and by now, this is already old news.

Jose Mourinho is the new man to take Spurs forward, or so Daniel Levy most likely hopes, and the Argentine coach is currently out of a job.

But many reports have already been heavily linking him with new gigs that are waiting just around the block.

One such report came from The Sun with the English outlet stating that Barcelona are also interested in hiring the former Spurs boss, with ESPN saying a similar thing even earlier than that.

And upon actually seeing this new update, many Barcelona fans were thrilled with the prospect of having such a coach at their club. They were showering him with praise and hoping that he ends up coming to Catalonia.

It seems that many of them are desperate for a change in leadership over at the Camp Nou and by this point, they are afraid to even hope that this could actually happen in the near future.

Liverpool’s signing of Lazar Markovic was a Rodgers disaster

Brendan Rodgers’ time at Liverpool may not have ended in the greatest of fashions, but there can be no questioning that he played a significant role in helping the Reds make their biggest push for a Premier League title in recent memory – until of course Jurgen Klopp arrived and took it up several levels.

The Northern Irishman was in charge at Anfield for more than three years, and according to figures collected by LFCHistory, brought in 33 players at a total combined cost of £296.5m. The likes of Roberto Firmino and James Milner have no doubt proven themselves to be the biggest successes on Merseyside, helping the Reds to the Champions League last season, and on the verge of Premier League title glory this time around.

But in all that, there was some major duds too. And perhaps none more so than the highly-rated Lazar Markovic.

The Greatest Bargains in Premier League history – How much did they cost?

The winger arrived in a £20m deal from Portuguese giants Benfica in the summer of 2014, and he certainly arrived with a glowing reputation. The Serbian had just helped his former side to the league title (winning the domestic treble in doing so), and also helped them reach the Europa League final too.

It’s hardly surprising then that Rodgers waxed lyrical about his newest signing after the move was officially confirmed by the club. He said: “Getting him at such a young age is also very pleasing for us, because we will be able to work with him to develop his talent within our group and improve him even further.

“This is an exciting signing for us and one that improves our squad, in terms of attacking options, for the coming season. He was hugely impressive for Benfica last season and has proved he has the ability to produce the goods in European competition as well, which will be important for us.”

But in the end, Markovic spectacularly failed to deliver on those early expectations and hype.

As per Transfermarkt, he made just 34 total appearances for Liverpool’s first-team, scoring just three goals in total, with only two of them coming in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old just failed to settle into life on Merseyside, and couldn’t really make a breakthrough into the side on a consistent basis. Even after Klopp’s arrival as manager, the winger simply couldn’t make it into the team, and the current Reds boss even admitted back in 2017 that they had been looking to offload for him for two consecutive summers.

The fact Markovic is now back at his first ever club, Partizan Belgrade, just speaks volumes of how his career has taken a dramatic dip since the day Rodgers brought him to Anfield.

From being described as a “rare talent” by European football journalist Andy Brassell after Liverpool’s signing back in 2014, Markovic will surely go down as one of, if not the biggest, transfer disasters of the Rodgers era.

Meanwhile, Liverpool fans react to links with this Ligue 1 ace.

Man Utd fans unhappy as Mason Greenwood misses out

Goal’s NxGn 2020 award winners have been announced, with the football website running the rule over the best teenage talents in the beautiful game.

Real Madrid’s Rodrygo was the winner in the men’s category, with Barcelona youngster Ansu Fati coming second and Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood placing third.

It’s an impressive achievement considering he only made his Premier League debut around 12 months ago, but some United fans aren’t happy with the 18-year-old’s final ranking.

In fairness, Greenwood has scored 14 goals in all competitions this season – including five in the Premier League – whereas Rodrygo’s bagged nine and Fati’s netted five.

The game isn’t all about goals, of course, but that’s perhaps why some Red Devils fans are claiming that a bias towards La Liga’s top clubs has pushed Greenwood down to third, with several declaring the United forward is better than his Barcelona and Real Madrid counter-parts.

Here’s a look at what United fans have been saying on Twitter…

Meanwhile, Man United are confident of landing a record-breaking transfer deal this summer.

Crystal Palace: Fans slate former player Mike Flanagan following tweet

A lot of the Crystal Palace fanbase are not scared to criticise former player Mike Flanagan, after a fan posted a tweet asking whether he was a hero or zero during his time at the club.

The forward signed for the Eagles from arch rivals Charlton in 1979, before he left the club a year later, per Soccerbase.

He also played for Queens Park Rangers and Cambridge United over the course of his football career which lasted from 1971-1986, via wherearetheynow.

It is fair to say that the fact he came from Charlton has not helped the Palace faithful have great memories of the player, but it is also clear from the comments that on the pitch he did not set the world alight whilst at the Selhurst Park.

There have been many players who have done that well at the club, more recently footballers such as Jordan Mutch and Jimmy Kebe did not make good impressions whilst playing for the Eagles, but it seems Flanagan gets added criticism because not only did he sign from Charlton but then he also went on to sign for fellow London rivals QPR.

Here is what fans had to say about the player:

Came from the Clowns. Looked like a clown. Played like a clown. Zero.

Newcastle United: Fans laud Jack Colback as Jonjo Shelvey says he is the best trainer

Some Newcastle United fans have been lauding Jack Colback, despite his Sunderland roots, as Jonjo Shelvey told In The Box (via ChronicleLive) that the central midfield player is near enough the Tyneside club’s best trainer.

As per the outlet, Colback has not played a competitive game for the Magpies in three years so perhaps this is a shocking claim. However, the 30-year old suffered a knee injury this year so maybe Shelvey has taken notice of his dedication to get back to full fitness.

The pair remain close and the 28-year old justified this by naming Colback in his dream 11. However, the latter was not part of Rafa Benitez’ plans upon the Toon’s return to the Premier League, but Shelvey insists that he still comes in and trains hard every day.

Indeed, Colback made 102 appearances for NUFC in all competitions between 2014 and 2017, scoring five goals and providing ten assists, according to Transfermarkt.

These supporters lauded their man on Twitter:

Liverpool: Fans love James Pearce’s tweet about PL restart

It’s the news all Liverpool fans have been waiting for – it has been confirmed that the Premier League will soon resume.

The news was confirmed on Thursday afternoon, with the Premier League announcing that the top flight will restart on June 17th. The Bundesliga had already started in the middle of May, and the success of the resumption in Germany – as of yet, there have been no new cases after three matchdays – has obviously given the English football authorities the belief that the sport can be resumed on these shores.

Liverpool reporter James Pearce shared the news on his Twitter account, and he took aim at those who have been continually asking for the campaign to be null and voided, whilst also relaying the announcement.

It is fair to say that the Reds supporters love Pearce’s tweet, understandably so given it should allow them to claim the Premier League title as they currently sit 25 points clear at the top. Many have taken to the social media platform to share their delight. You can see some of the best comments below.

Leicester: Former Celtic ace Moussa Dembele could be ideal replacement for Jamie Vardy

Leicester have been named amongst those interested in acquiring the services of Lyon striker Moussa Dembele this summer.

Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic connections continue to cast light on some tempting transfer targets ahead of next season. The French forward, who joined Lyon from the Scottish outfit in 2018, is reportedly on the manager’s radar. A price hasn’t been set, but Dembele’s current Transfermarkt value sits at £36million, which isn’t an unreasonable amount by any means.

According to France Football (via Sport Witness), Rodgers is keen on reuniting with his former player and using his clinical nature to bolster the Foxes’ attack. However, Dembele is aware of the interest and isn’t making Leicester a ‘priority decision’ despite enjoying his time under Rodgers at Celtic.

The 23-year-old hasn’t specified why he doesn’t see the Midlands outfit as an attractive move, but that could all change if they secure Champions League football next season.

As it stands, Leicester are third in the Premier League table after a fantastic run of form, pushing Manchester City to the wire for second place. With just four points between them and the holding champions, they could well finish in their highest position since their 2015/16 fairytale win.

Club icon Jamie Vardy is still a regular, but he isn’t getting any younger and Leicester must be equipped to fill his boots. The England international currently leads the entire Premier League with the most goals scored – his tally of 19 trumps the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mohamed Salah who have both also had prolific seasons.

Dembele’s stats are numbers to be marvelled at and could be the answer to replacing Vardy once his powers start to diminish. The Frenchman has a 2019/20 season total of 22 goals, just falling shy of last campaign’s tally of 23 (via Transfermarkt).

If Leicester secure Champions League football and continue to show grit in the Premier League, they could sway the striker into joining the King Power after all. And if there is a possibility to sign him up, Rodgers should do everything he can to make that happen.

Manchester United: Red Devils receive major Jadon Sancho boost as news emerges

Manchester United have received a major boost in the race to sign Jadon Sancho in the summer, according to The Daily Express.

Football writer James Benson revealed Sancho has told Borussia Dortmund he wants to leave the club and return to England.

Last week, ESPN claimed that the Red Devils are the clear front-runners to sign the Dortmund star.

The Englishman has emerged as one of Europe’s hottest talents after establishing himself as a key player at the Signal Iduna Park.

It has been reported that Old Trafford is his preferred destination, as Marcus Rashford is keen to reunite with his international teammate.

United had faced competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea, but Frank Lampard has now turned his attention to Bayer Leverkusen ace Kai Havertz instead.

Despite the fact he only cost Dortmund a mere £8m in a move from Manchester City, Ed Woodward will have to part ways with at least £89m in order to prise Sancho away from the Yellow and Blacks.

The 20-year-old, who is the club’s top scorer this season, has bagged 17 goals and 16 assists in the Bundesliga at the time of writing.

This news will no doubt delight Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as the Norwegian made it clear Sancho is at the top of his shortlist after he missed out on signing the England international last year.

United have been interested in Sancho for a very long time, stemming all the way back to Jose Mourinho’s infamous time in charge at the Theatre of Dreams.

The Red Devils were in the middle of working on a squad overhaul before the nationwide lockdown was imposed due to the pandemic (ESPN).

It seems Solskjaer has remained deadfast as he is determined to get his man before the start of next season and he now looks set to beat all competition for his signature.

Brighton & Hove Albion: Viktor Gyokeres admits uncertainty over his Seagulls future

Brighton forward Viktor Gyokeres has admitted that he doesn’t know whether or not he has a future at the club.

The 22-year-old has just returned to the Amex Stadium following a loan spell at German second tier outfit St. Pauli and, while he has hinted that he would like to remain a Seagulls player, he confessed that his career is currently in some limbo.

He told Swedish media outlet Fotbollskanalen [via Sussex Live]: “It’s a good club playing in the Premier League, so it’s clear you’re aiming for it, but we’ll see what happens. Otherwise, you can take it from there. Right now, I don’t know what will happen next season.

“But you can see what alternatives there are if I’m not in Brighton. I hope to be there. I’m not thinking about it right now or talking to my agent. Right now, I have a little vacation from everything and then I’ll be ready for next season. I don’t really know what they are thinking. It’s hard for me to say.”

Gyokeres hit seven goals and provided four assists in 26 league appearances at St. Pauli this season, a contribution which proved crucial as the Hamburg-based club narrowly avoided relegation to the third tier.

The Swedish attacker had an impressive match average of 1.9 shots in 2. Bundesliga, while a return of 1.8 successful dribbles per game shows that he is adept at taking on opposition defences (as per WhoScored).

He has struggled for recognition at Brighton, though, making just five senior appearances for the Seagulls. Those all came in domestic cup competitions in the 2018/19 campaign, with three games as an unused substitute the closest he has come to getting a run in the Premier League. [via TransferMarkt]

The 22-year-old boasts the versatility of being able to play as a centre-forward or left-sided winger, with the occasional appearance on the right flank also highlighting his ability to feature anywhere across the front line (as per TransferMarkt).

Gyokeres has put his best foot forward for recognition by Graham Potter with his form for St. Pauli during his loan spell, although the Brighton manager already has an abundance of attacking options at his disposal such as Neal Maupay, Aaron Connolly, Leandro Trossard and Glenn Murray.

Indeed, such is the competition for places in the Seagulls’ attack that Alireza Jahanbakhsh hasn’t even been able to make it into recent 20-man matchday squads and has been linked with Ajax (De Telegraaf) and PSV Eindhoven (Voetbal International).

Right now, it appears that the Swedish forward has an uphill task on his hands to forge his way into Potter’s plans for next season.
