Braced for offers: Fulham’s “towering” titan has decided leave in January

Fulham could be set to lose one of their first-team players in January, with a new report revealing that he has already made the decision to leave Craven Cottage.

Fulham's summer departures

Marco Silva sanctioned the sales of 11 players in total over the summer, with Aleksandar Mitrovic, Joe Bryan and Anthony Knockaert being some of the bigger names to leave on a permanent basis, whilst there were also three who were sent out on loan for the remainder of the season in order to receive more game time.

The Cottagers have a further nine players out of contract at the end of the season, including the likes of Willian, Tim Ream and Bobby De Cordova-Reid (Fulham contracts), meaning that the boss has to consider cashing in should he not want to risk losing his prized assets for free.

Tosin Adarabioyo is another one of those who will have reached the expiration of his terms upon the conclusion of the current campaign, and having played just one minute of football this season in the Premier League following groin surgery (WhoScored – Adarabioyo statistics), the centre-back has fallen out of favour.

England’s former youth international had attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur and AS Monaco before the previous transfer window closed, but with a second opportunity set to be made available for his potential suitors, the 26-year-old appears keen to start a new adventure elsewhere.

Fulham likely to lose Tosin Adarabioyo

According to Football Insider, Adarabioyo is hoping to leave Fulham in January, with a host of clubs expected to get their offers in ahead of the next window opening at the start of 2024.

Fulham will be in the market for a right-sided centre-back in the January window with Tosin Adarabioyo expected to leave the club, sources have told Football Insider.

"Adarabioyo, 26, is out of contract at the end of the 2023-24 campaign and is set to be the subject of offers when the mid-season window opens on 1 January after making up his mind to leave. And Fulham are ready to spend big in the new year after promising Marco Silva much-needed funds.”

Fulham defenderTosin Adarabioyo.

Standing at a staggering 6 foot 5, Adarabioyo is a “towering” colossus at the heart of Fulham’s backline, as hailed by journalist Josh Bunting, and last season prior to his injury absence, he proved to be a real rock and physical presence in front of his goalkeeper.

The Manchester-born talent, who pockets £40,000-a-week (Fulham salaries), was averaging 5.5 clearances and 2.4 aerial wins per top-flight game during the previous term, so he’s extremely strong at getting rid of the danger and protecting his fellow teammates.

Adarabioyo is also a versatile operator having been deployed in four different positions over the grass since the start of his career, including at left-back, right-back and higher up in defensive midfield alongside his usual role (Transfermarkt – Adarabioyo statistics), so it will be interesting to see where he could go and who Fulham look to bring in to replace him.

Arsenal: Arteta could unearth a "fantastic" teen Zinchenko heir

Arsenal's youth production has been stellar over their illustrious history, and there is arguably no better environment with which to promote them from Hale End than the current one which Mikel Arteta has cultivated.

However, some of the outstanding academy stars will have a tough task on their hands overtaking the first-team regulars, with Oleksandr Zinchenko one man who could be under threat…

How good is Oleksandr Zinchenko?

Having joined in the summer of 2022 for £32m, the former Manchester City man marked an imperative acquisition for the Gunners, alongside Gabriel Jesus, to help add some stars already embedded within the system and with a winning mentality sure to rub off on the squad.

oleksandr-zinchenko-arsenal-edu-arteta-benfica-live-updates-deadline-day-alexander-bah

Arteta outlined the effect his Ukrainian ace instantly had: "First of all, his mentality. He’s used to winning – winning is the only thing and winning in the right way.

"He’s a perfectionist and a really demanding boy, I know him so well, and after that he brings qualities that we didn’t have in the squad. He gives us a different option to play within the role in different spaces, and I’m really happy to have him."

His tactical dexterity has been paramount in pioneering the inverted full-back in the Emirates, with the defender sitting in the top 3% for passes attempted per 90, the top 5% for pass completion per 90, and the top 1% for progressive passes per 90 when compared to other full-backs across Europe, via FBref.

However, in Michal Rosiak, Arteta could be set to unearth an ideal heir to the 26-year-old, who he could mould perfectly in his image.

Who is Michal Rosiak?

Despite naturally being a right-back, his ability to also play in midfield arguably makes him the perfect subject to be converted into an inverted full-back, with his attacking exploits last season for the U21s only acting as further support.

The Polish defender was a key cog in their run to the FA Youth Cup final, and would score four goals in that competition whilst also managing a further ten goal contributions in just ten U18s Premier League matches. Academy expert Jeorge Bird would emphasise the former notion, as he took to Twitter to write: "Michal Rosiak, who has been fantastic in this Youth Cup run, opens the scoring with a brilliant free-kick".

As a silky stalwart who is just as comfortable in possession as he is at snatching it back from the opposition, his reward for such blistering form was a first professional contract back in April which marked a huge show of faith in the teenage sensation who was seemingly built for Arteta's system.

It could even be argued that, whilst he may not be as controlling as Zinchenko is in the engine room, his offensive exploits offer a fine makeweight, given the £150k-per-week star has recorded just three goal contributions across 43 appearances, a tally which Rosiak bettered in the FA Youth Cup alone last term.

Although it might seem a tough task to usurp the defender, who acts as a key pillar of Arteta's system, it is clear that the Poland U19 international has the exact skillset to mimic what makes Zinchenko so successful, certain to begin challenging him in the coming years.

Rangers: BBC pundit thinks "tremendous" man could join next coaching staff

Former Rangers star and BBC pundit Alan Hutton believes that a "tremendous" figure could form part of their next manager's new coaching staff at Ibrox

Michael Beale sacked

The Gers have endured a poor start to this new season and currently sit a pretty big seven points behind Old Firm rivals and Scottish Premiership frontrunners Celtic. Ange Postecoglou dominated the division for two years before departing for Tottenham, and Rangers now threaten letting new Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers replicating the Australian. Losing three league games already, while being subject to boos from their own supporters on multiple occasions, Rangers made the big decision to sack Michael Beale as manager nearly two weeks ago.

Former Rangers boss Michael Beale.

Former Teddy Bears midfielder Kevin Thomson, speaking to Sky Sports news after Beale's dismissal, said that the job is an attractive one but the expectation surrounding Ibrox is the greatest he's ever seen. Thomson said:

"When you look at the club and how big it is, I'm pretty sure that all the big-hitters and all the big names will be getting their agents to get on the phone to the Rangers board to make sure they try and stake a claim to get in front of the board to try and prove to them that they could be the next person.

"I'd hate to throw individual names in there because I just think you're almost second-guessing really. But what I would say is it is a prestigious job, it is as good as it gets, a massive club, an opportunity to win silverware. The expectation and demand is bigger than I have ever seen. I think the club are in a good position. There are selling points, they have got a cup semi-final coming up, there is still the Scottish Cup to play for, they are still in Europe."

Reports in the last few weeks have suggested that the likes of Philippe Clement and Kevin Muscat are currently leading contenders to replace Beale, while Nenad Bjelica has apparently thrown his hat into the ring late on.

Rangers news – Steven Davis

Currently taking interim charge, Steven Davis has guided the Gers to a Europa League defeat and 3-0 league win over St. Mirren. The Northern Ireland legend knows Rangers as a club very well, and David Graham, a former employee, has tipped the 38-year-old for great things.

Rangers interim boss Steven Davis.

"A professional for over 20 years, he has been a tremendous servant to Rangers over two occasions – including as captain," said Graham to the News Letter.

"I consider Steven a very good friend, a very good family friend," he told the News Letter. His reputation goes before him – he is a Northern Ireland legend. I have joked with him many times he's the greatest ever Ulsterman, but that will be for others to decide."

Now, Hutton has suggested to Football Insider that Davis may well be considered as part of the next Rangers manager's coaching staff. When asked if the midfielder could be back playing, he said:

You have to factor in his age but he has got a lot of experience, a lot of knowledge to pass on so could he be part of the next coaching staff? I would presume that is the direction he wants to go in when he is finished. It is ultimately down to him and whether he still sees himself playing but if he does I do not think that will be at Rangers.

Rajkot or Hyderabad could host India's first day-night Test

The BCCI has asked the Committee of Administrators to take the final call on India playing their inaugural day-night Test in the two-match series at home against West Indies next season

The BCCI has asked the Committee of Administrators (CoA) to take the final call on India playing their inaugural day-night Test in the two-match series at home against West Indies next season. Rajkot and Hyderabad will host the two Tests, which will be played this October. That is so far the only Test series India are scheduled to play during the 2018-19 home season before they depart for the four-Test series against Australia at the end of the year. Before that, India will play a one-off Test against Afghanistan from June 14-18 in Bengaluru.India’s international home season is scheduled to commence with the Asia Cup, which is likely to begin on September 18, subject to the Indian government giving permission to allow Pakistan to play.Along with the two Tests, West Indies will also play five ODIs and three T20Is in October-November. The BCCI’s tours, programmes and fixtures committee met on Saturday to finalise the venues for the next season and picked Mumbai, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, Indore and Guwahati as the five cities for the ODI series. The three T20s will be held in Kolkata, Chennai and Kanpur/Lucknow.With 2019 being a World Cup year, India are scheduled to play several limited-overs matches as part of their preparations. After their tour of Australia, India will travel to New Zealand to play five ODIs and three T20s (as per the ICC’s Future Tours Programme). On their return, India will wrap up the home season with another limited-overs series, against Australia, comprising five ODIs and two T20s. That series will be played in February-March before the IPL and will be India’s last international series before the World Cup begins in England on May 30. Mohali, Delhi, Nagpur, Hyderabad and Ranchi will host the ODIs against Australia while Visakhapatnam and Bengaluru will host the two T20s.At the meeting held in Mumbai on Saturday, the BCCI’s tours, programmes and fixtures committee was told by the board secretary Amitabh Choudhary that Cricket West Indies (CWI) had agreed to the BCCI’s proposal to play a day-night Test.Recently, Choudhary was pulled up by the CoA chairman Vinod Rai for showing a “cavalier attitude” in taking policy decisions. Rai said the issue of day-night Tests would be placed on hold untill further deliberations took place.Choudhary had tried to douse Rai’s criticism by stating that he was merely trying to find “remedies” to arrest the “diminishing” interest in Test cricket. Also, since India are the only big Test-playing nation to have not played Test cricket under lights, Choudhary said he had consulted the likes of India coach Ravi Shastri, who was open to the idea of being tried on an “experimental” basis against West Indies. In his suggestions to Choudhary, Shastri had pointed out that the Tests against “tier-II” countries like West Indies be held in tier-II cities (smaller centres) and the match start by noon.

Aston Villa could unearth 18 y/o gem as a Mings heir

Aston Villa have enjoyed a solid start to the season which has seen them win four of their six matches so far, qualifying for the Europa Conference League group stages in the process.

Defeats to Newcastle United and Liverpool in the Premier League will be glossed over should Unai Emery keep up the feel good factor at the club and there is no reason why they can’t challenge the top six, especially with the excellent group of players he has at his disposal.

The Spaniard will have to do it without the services of Tyrone Mings however, as he suffered a serious injury against Newcastle during the opening league match of the season.

How long will Tyrone Mings be injured for?

The defender sustained a serious knee injury during the first half of the tie against the Magpies last month and was stretchered off.

Following a scan, the Englishman had to undergo surgery, and he will have to go through a period of extensive rehabilitation in order to get back fit.

It looks as though he will miss the rest of the current season and Emery will now need to rely on summer signing Pau Torres to fill the void left by the 30-year-old.

Could there perhaps be a long term heir to the former Bournemouth centre-back within the Villa academy however? As Kerr Smith has made waves since joining the club in 2022.

Who is Kerr Smith?

The 18-year-old arrived in the Midlands back in January 2022 from Dundee United as Steven Gerrard looked to cherry-pick some of the brightest talent in Scotland.

Tyrone Mings for Aston Villa

Academy manager Mark Harrison heaped praise on him upon his arrival, saying: “We are delighted that Kerr has joined us, he is a player we have tracked and monitored for a long time.

“He has lots of potential but has already gained some fantastic experiences at first-team level with Dundee United, which is rare for a 17-year-old.

“We are really excited to see how he develops and hopefully one day we will see him become a regular in our first team.”

The youngster had already made 12 appearances for the United senior team during the first half of the 2021/22 season, and he even garnered praise from veteran defender Mark Connolly.

He said: “Kerr, who played beside me, was fantastic. He’s 16 years of age and it’s incredible.”

High praise indeed for someone so young, and it looks as though Smith has settled in at Villa rather well. Across both the U18 and U21 sides, he has racked up 44 appearances already, which include 25 in the Premier League 2.

The centre-back has even made nine appearances for the Scotland U19 team, and it’s evident he could turn into a special player, especially if he carries on with his development under Emery.

Senior football at Villa Park may just be slightly out of reach at the minute, despite Mings’ injury, yet there is no doubt the Spaniard has an ideal long term heir for the Englishman currently waiting in the wings for an opportunity to shine.

Romano Drops Update On Chelsea’s "Third Signing In A Couple Of Days"

Chelsea are set to continue their spending spree this summer, with the deal for an "enormous talent" looking more and more like a formality, per transfers expert Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea news – what is the latest?

Mauricio Pochettino's side have been on a serious buying spree in recent weeks after starting the summer with a firesale of first-team players the club deemed surplus to requirements.

And despite just smashing the league's transfer record by signing Brighton & Hove Albion's Moises Caicedo for £115m and following that up by agreeing a £53m fee for Southampton's exciting youngster Romeo Lavia, the Blues want more.

The next item on the agenda seems to be another attacker, and with the recent long-term injury to new boy Christopher Nkunku, that's not all that surprising.

The player Todd Boehly and Co have opted to sign to bolster their front line is Crystal Palace's Michael Olise, with the Blues activating the dynamic winger's £35m release clause to take the deal out of the South Londoner's hands, per transfers expert Fabrizio Romano.

michael-olise-crystal-palace-arsenal-transfer-gossip-edu-arteta-trossard

He explained the situation on his YouTube channel, saying:

"Now [the] £35m release clause for Michael Olise has been activated by Chelsea. It was an exclusive news about the release Clause of Olise, and I saw for many days people denying the clause is no longer there the clause has been removed. No, the clause was there the clause was valid was considered by both Chelsea and City, both clubs [were] waiting to understand also how was advanced in the situation of the injury of Michael Olise as he was injured in June.

"But now Chelsea decided to proceed with the player saying yes, with his Camp being very open to move to Chelsea. Chelsea decided to activate the clause. Now it's time to fix the deal with the Agents of the player to prepare the structure of the contract in this case because, with Palace, there is no need to negotiate [as] the clause has been activated, and then Olise is going to become the third signing in couple of days for Chelsea.

"So, incredible spending from Chelsea, incredible commitment from the owners, let me say because they're really investing and investing and investing on young talents, so the vision is clear, and Olise is going to be the next signing with a very long contract I will enter into details as soon as possible, but the deal is imminent for Michael Olise to Chelsea.

"So, work in progress on that one waiting very soon for the here we go."

How old is Michael Olise?

Born December 12th 2001, in Hammersmith, England, Olise is 21 years old, and despite being born in London, he has opted to represent France at both under-18 and under-21 level due to his French-Algerian mother.

While the agile attacker made his Premier League debut for Palace in the 2021/22 season, starting 12 games and making a further 14 appearances from the bench, it was last season when he truly burst onto the scene and made the country take notice.

In his 31 starts for the Eagles last campaign, he scored two goals, provided 11 assists, took 1.4 shots per game, won five Man-of-the-Match awards and averaged a superb match rating of 6.99, per WhoScored.

Crystal Palace midfielder Michael Olise.

His underlying numbers also make for impressive reading and suggest that his output could explode under a more attacking coach like Pochettino.

According to FBref, which compares players in a similar position across Europe's top five leagues, the "enormous talent", as described by manager Roy Hodgson, sits in the top 7% for assists, the top 9% for blocks, the top 15% for interceptions, and the top 18% for expected assists and tackles, all per 90.

Described as "one of the best wide playmakers in Europe" only a couple of months ago by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, it's fair to say that despite being just 21 years old, Olise has well and truly announced himself to fans of the Premier League, and by joining Chelsea, he might just have the opportunity to do the same on a European stage soon enough.

Arsenal: Arteta Could Now Sign "Combative" £13m Xhaka Replacement

Arsenal were expected to tone down their summer business following the acquisition of Declan Rice, yet it seems Mikel Arteta cannot resist an opportunity in this market…

Who else is Arsenal signing?

Especially given there has been little reporting regarding their interest in Eintracht Frankfurt's Djibril Sow, and yet they are now seeking to hijack Lazio's move for the midfielder.

That is at least what is being suggested by Italian outlet CalcioMercato.it, who claim that the north London side are trying to aggressively enter the negotiations despite the Rome outfit having agreed a €15m (£13m) fee for his services.

Read the latest Arsenal transfer news HERE…

Whilst it is not noted whether they will bid, this is a figure likely easy for the free-spending Gunners to match. Especially given he would mark a perfect replacement for Granit Xhaka, who left earlier in the window for a £21.4m sum that would exceed what they would have to conjure in this situation.

Is Djibril Sow good?

Having thrived in the Bundesliga since leaving his homeland in 2019, the 38-cap Swiss international is a vastly experienced 26-year-old who would add steel and firepower to Arteta's engine room.

These are exactly the kind of qualities that they will have lost with the departure of their old Swiss general, who left following a fine personal campaign that spearheaded their title charge.

The 30-year-old would record 14 goal contributions in the league, upholding the 7.05 average rating that made him Arsenal's eighth-best performer.

What made Xhaka even more useful was the fact he would also average 1.3 key passes and 0.9 tackles per game, suggesting there was little in the midfield he did not do, via Sofascore.

Arteta even sought to outline his importance to the team following the conclusion of the term:

"He’s been exceptional, a key part of the success of the team and I’m so happy that everybody is appreciating what he’s done."

Whilst it would take a monumental task to replace these figures, Sow boasts the skillset to do so with ease, considering he not only matches his physical profile but also has that touch of class that could soon make him an attacking threat too.

granit-xhaka

Last season in the German top flight, the former Young Boys titan, who stands at a physically imposing stature of 6-foot, recorded a 6.86 average rating, bolstered by his four goals, 86% pass accuracy, 0.5 key passes and 1.3 tackles per game, via Sofascore.

Whilst his creativity might have been lacking, his ability to arrive late and finish off chances remains a key asset. During the 2021/22 season too, he racked up nine goal contributions in all competitions, as if to emphasise his well-rounded offensive assets that would only improve when surrounded by such quality.

Journalist Sam Smith even took to Twitter to detail his surprise with Sow's talents:

"First time properly watching Djibril Sow in this first half & been impressed. Progressive on the ball and combative."

That desperation to push the ball forward could see him thrive at the Emirates too, especially beside Rice. After all, the England international recorded six goal contributions of his own most recently in the league, alongside one key pass and 2.1 tackles per game, via Sofascore.

The two could interchange roles with ease, both boasting the necessary skillset to screen a backline and push forward to score.

Perhaps a new-look midfield partnership could be the catalyst that finally returns the Premier League title to north London, with Sow's antics in emulating Xhaka a big factor in such success.
